CollegeBoard’s SAT Updates

As you gear up for the new school year, there are some updates to the registration process for the SAT you need to know about. The biggest change is a photo requirement. When you register for the SAT online at collegeboard.org, you will need to upload a photo of yourself. This photo must not include anyone else, and you must look the way you will on the test day. For example, whatever your hair color is in the photo you upload, your hair needs to be that color for the test day. For the full list of requirements on the photo, click here. The photo will go on the admission ticket that you need to print out and bring with you on the test day. If you would like to get a headstart on all of this, you are able to register for the October and November tests at CollegeBoard right now.

Another change is the price for the SAT. The cost to register has gone up one dollar to $50. However, if you qualify for free or reduced lunch at the high school, you can receive a fee waiver that covers the cost of the SAT. See your guidance counselor or the college adviser for more information.

Have questions? Email me, or stop by the guidance office at the start of the school year to ask the new college adviser!

Also, get started on your SAT preparation with practice at CollegeBoard’s website, and with some of the fun links on my website to the right.

What are you doing this summer?

I hope that all of you have caught up on your sleep since the end of the school year, and are enjoying your summer so far. While many of you may be lounging at the pool, taking road trip adventures with family and friends, or even catching up with your favorite TV series, the summer is also a great time to prepare for your post high school education! So what will you do this summer to prepare? Will you research schools that would be a good fit for you? Will you learn more about careers you might be interested in? Are you going to take a tour of a college campus? Will you shadow someone? Will you do some summer reading to prepare for the SAT and college applications (see 101 books for the college bound)? Will you participate in an enriching summer program? Will you volunteer? Will you work?

Whatever it is that you plan on doing, tweet your plan @ncackr, #summercollegeprep, and I’ll share the great plans right here! Need some ideas? Contact me through the “Email Me” tab at the top of the page!

Seniors — still interested in applying to school?

There are still many four year schools still accepting applications for the fall 2012 semester for current seniors. One school, Millersville University, is hoping to still fill some open spots! Many of the other state schools (Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, Lock Haven, etc.) are still taking applications as well. There are also private schools (Neumann University, Keystone College, Emory and Henry College, etc.). If you are still interested in applying to a four year school, there is still time! Please come down to see me in the guidance office if you need any help.

4 years not for you? Many technical, trade, and community colleges are still taking applications, too! (HACC, Pennsylvania College of Technology, YBI, etc.)

Need help now? Click the “Apply Now” picture at the top to email me!
